The Company

The company was formed in 2000 by Kate Saffin, following her first adaptation of Ramlin Rose: the Boatwoman’s story by Sheila Stewart. That play took Rose through childhood to marriage. Since then a second show Rose’s War has been produced. Both have been preformed extensively at Inland Waterway boat shows, festivals and rallies, local pub venues and the Old Fire Station theatre, Oxford.

A boat’s yer whole world’ was a new play premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2005. It focusses on the marriage and relationship of Rose and her husband Syer (Josiah) from meeting during the Great War to a surprising end to the Second World War. ‘Kate Saffin is utterly convincing as Rose… as an actress she has great range’ (The Scotsman Aug 8th 2005).

Shorter pieces adapted from the stories of Rose’s childhood provide the basis of performances and workshops with children - at waterway events or in school.

Overall the company aims to bring the world of the canals to life - with humour but without sentimentality.
